Winnipeg Air Testing has been awarded a research grant to further validate the WATSIN chemical exposure calculator. The grant is shared by Safety in Numbers – a web-based compliance tool to help companies comply with provincial health and safety regulations. WATSIN was initially developed as part of the resources provided in Safety in Numbers.
WATSIN is a web-based tool that allows companies to assess potential exposure to chemicals in the workplace. It is a screen for, or in some cases, a substitute for air testing.
The grant spans a four year period. The first year will involve air testing in companies the cost of which is covered by the grant. The sampling will collect additional data of processes and chemicals of interest to the further development of WATSIN. The following 3 years will have WATSIN available to Manitoba companies to allow them to assess potential exposures in their workplace. Technical assistance will available as needed through Winnipeg Air Testing throughout the life of the grant.
The WATSIN calculator can be found at www.safetyinnumbers.ca. Manitoba companies can access it for free under the WCB grant. There is also additional health and safety resources on the site.
